ZERO WASTE
ABOUT THE PRODUCTS
It is hard to pinpoint exactly how long the garments will take to break down, it is very dependant on how healthy your compost is, the time of year and climate you live in. As the lingerie is made from a variety of different materials each component will break down at times, all cotton components will take anywhere between six to eighteen months, where as the silk will take anywhere between twelve to forty-eight months.
While silk is not the quickest natural fabric to compost it is still one of the most sustainable and ethical both for people, planet and animals.
To speed up the process of decomposition you can cut your lingerie into smaller sections.
READY FOR THE COMPOST BIN
Once your piece is ready for the compost bin you must identify the hard-wear as this can not go into the compost bin. Using scissors or an unpicker remove these components, in the bras and suspenders there is hidden metal boning at the back by the gated back. Once these are removed the pieces are ready for decomposition! A full video of how to get each product ready for the compost bin is on the right. It can also be viewed on instagram @dearplanetintimates.
